UGADI SUBHAKANKSHALU to every one.
This is the new year for Telugu people.Today we make a special dish called as Ugadi
Pachadi(chutney). We prepare this dish with 6 flavors. Those are
  • Sweetness
  • Sourness
  • Bitterness
  • Hotness
  • Saltness
  • Tangyness
We believes that one who eat this dish with all these tastes will have the happiness and sarrow in same proportions.

We use
  1. Jaggery for sweetness
  2. Raw mango for sournee
  3. Neem buds for bitterness(i used bitter gourd for this as i can't found neem buds here)
  4. Green chilly for hotness
  5. Salt for saltness
  6. Tamarind for tangyness
We use some more ingredients along with these....they are
  • Banana
  • Sugar cane..
How to prepare:

Chop all the raw ingredients and mix with the salt and the tamarind juice.
Serve like prasrdam with spoon. Some people like to take this with bowls.(i am also one of them hee hee)we wait one whole year to taste this..

After this we traditionally gather to listen to the recitation of the religious almanac (Panchangam) of the coming year, and to the general forecast of the year to come. This is the Panchanga Sravanam.Normally an elderly and respected person(guruvugaru) opens the new almanac which contains the benedictions of the coming year(just like weather channel here hee hee...).

The advent of television has changed this routine somewhat, especially in the cities. Nowadays, people turn on the TV to watch the recitation.

Along with this pachadi we make some festive foods.I prepared Pulihora(tamarind rice)and Paramannam(rice pudding).
